Introduction: Breast augmentation technique through transabdominal approach was first described by Hinderer in 1975. The popularization of aesthetic plastic surgery and the concept of "makeover" resulted in a demand of patient who desire combined procedures. Since combined procedure arose, effort has been made to demonstrate the approach safety and effectiveness.
Objective: Demonstrate results and safety in transabdominal breast augmentation in patients with indication for abdominoplasty in a single medical center.
Methods: This is transversal, retrospective analysis of patients that have done combined procedure (abdominoplasty + transabdominal breast augmentation with implants) between 2008 and 2018 in a private medical center.
Results: We believe to have achieved good aesthetic and functional results with proper patient selection (152). We had five patients with some kind of necrosis of the abdominal flap or incision and one patient with capsular contracture. We did not report any thromboembolism or hematomas. Minor complications have not been reported.
Discussion: Results corroborate that combined procedure is safe and effective, minimizing incisions and scars, with low complication rates in well selected patients. Besides that, combined procedure allows inframammary fold repositioning through internal sutures, and avoids higher costs and potential complications of multiple trips to the operating room.
Conclusion: Breast augmentation with implants through abdominoplasty incision is a safe and effective surgery, minimizing scars, with low complications incidence in well selected patients, and should be considered in those women who desire and have indication for both procedures.
