Routine in otoplasty of the Medical Residency Service of the Plastic Surgery and Microsurgery Team of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Porto Alegre

ABSTRACT

Correction of prominent ears plays an important role in improving self-esteem and social interaction, especially in children. From January to December 2018, a total of 38 prominent ear corrections were performed at the Hospital of the Child Santo Antônio, by the team of the Service of Plastic Surgery and Microsurgery of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia of Porto Alegre. All these procedures were performed by the Unified Health System, with children between age 9 and 17. Between January and December 2018, 31 children were operated on with prominent ears, 58.06% male and 41.93% female, ranging from 8 to 17 years (mean of 14.13 years). Otoplasty is a procedure of small complexity, with a low rate of complications and a high rate of patient satisfaction; helping to improve self-esteem and social acceptance in this age group.

RESUMO

A correção das orelhas proeminentes tem papel importante na melhora da autoestima e no convívio social, em especial nas crianças. De janeiro a dezembro de 2018, foi realizado um total de 38 correções de orelhas proeminentes, no Hospital da Criança Santo Antônio, pela equipe do Serviço de Cirurgia Plástica e Microcirurgia da Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Porto Alegre. Todos esses procedimentos foram realizados pelo Sistema Único de Saúde, com crianças entre 9 e 17 anos. Entre janeiro e dezembro de 2018, foram operadas 31 crianças por orelhas proeminentes, sendo 58,06% do sexo masculino e 41,93% do sexo feminino, com uma idade que variou de 8 a 17 anos (média de 14,13 anos). A otoplastia é um procedimento de pequena complexidade, baixo índice de complicações e elevada taxa de satisfação por parte dos pacientes; auxiliando na melhora da autoestima e aceitação social nessa faixa etária.
